About this tool
Play a test tone through your left, right, or both speaker channels to check they're both working and wired the right way round, or run a slow frequency sweep from 20Hz to 20kHz to check your speakers' full range. Everything is generated locally using the Web Audio API — no audio file is downloaded or played.
Frequently asked questions
- I only hear sound from one speaker when testing "Both channels" — is that normal?
- No — "Both channels" sends an identical tone to left and right equally. If you only hear one side, that's a sign of a wiring, balance, or hardware issue (check your OS's balance/mono settings first, then the speaker/cable itself).
- Why can't I hear the very start or end of the frequency sweep?
- Most speakers and headphones can't reproduce the extreme ends of the 20Hz–20kHz range well (and many adult ears can't hear much above ~15-16kHz) — that's a normal hardware/hearing limitation, not a bug in the test.
- Why does the volume default to only 30%?
- A generated pure tone can sound louder than expected, especially through headphones — starting at a moderate level avoids an unpleasant surprise. Turn it up if you need to.
