Frequently asked questions

What do the colors mean?

Each color represents a category of element — alkali metals, noble gases, transition metals, and so on — shown in the legend below the table, matching the standard convention used in most printed periodic tables.

Why are two rows separated below the main table?

Those are the lanthanides and actinides — placed below to keep the main table a manageable width, exactly as in the standard printed layout, even though they technically belong within period 6 and 7.

Are the atomic masses exact?

They're standard published values rounded to a few decimal places — some very heavy, synthetic elements only have a "most stable isotope" mass rather than a natural standard atomic weight, since they don't occur naturally.
