Weighted GPA

About this tool

Add each course's letter grade and credit hours to calculate a weighted GPA on the standard 4.0 scale. Courses with more credit hours count proportionally more toward the total, which is how most US colleges and universities weight GPA.

Frequently asked questions

What scale is used?
The standard US 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, F = 0.0.
How is the weighted average calculated?
Each course's grade points are multiplied by its credit hours, those are summed across all courses, and the total is divided by the sum of all credit hours.
My school uses a different scale — can I still use this?
This tool is built around the standard 4.0 scale. If your institution uses a different scale (a 5.0 scale with weighted honors courses, for example), the exact grade points may not match — check your school's official scale for anything that counts.
