About this tool
Pick or type a base color to generate a complementary color (opposite on the color wheel), analogous colors (neighboring hues), and a range of lighter and darker shades. Click any swatch to copy its hex code.
Frequently asked questions
- What's the difference between complementary and analogous?
- Complementary colors sit directly opposite each other on the color wheel (180° apart) and create strong contrast. Analogous colors sit close together (about 30° apart) and tend to look harmonious together.
- How are the shades generated?
- By adjusting the lightness of the base color up and down in HSL color space while keeping the hue and saturation the same, producing a consistent tint-to-shade range.
- Can I type any color format?
- Type a 3- or 6-digit hex code (with or without the # symbol), or use the color picker swatch for a visual picker.
