Barcode Scanner

Decode a barcode from an uploaded image or your camera.

About this tool

Scan a barcode from an uploaded photo, or live using your camera — supports common 1D formats (UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8/13, Code 39, Code 93, Code 128, Codabar, ITF) as well as 2D formats like QR, PDF417, Aztec, and Data Matrix. The counterpart to this site's Barcode Generator.

Decoding runs entirely in your browser using ZXing, a well-established open-source barcode reading library; nothing is uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Why won't my camera turn on?
Your browser will prompt for camera permission the first time — if you previously denied it, you'll need to allow camera access for this site in your browser's site settings. Camera scanning also requires a secure context (HTTPS or localhost).
Why didn't it detect the barcode in my image?
Decoding works best with a clear, well-lit, unobstructed, reasonably straight-on shot of the barcode — try cropping the image tighter around just the barcode, or improving focus/lighting if it was a photo.
What formats are supported?
Most common retail and logistics barcode formats: UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, EAN-13, Code 39, Code 93, Code 128, Codabar, ITF, plus 2D formats QR, PDF417, Aztec, and Data Matrix.
