Frequently asked questions
- Why doesn't PNG show up as an output option?
- PNG is lossless, so there's no quality slider to meaningfully shrink it the way JPEG/WebP allow — for a PNG that's too large, try converting it to WebP (also lossless-capable, usually smaller) with the Image Format Converter, or reduce its dimensions with the Image Resizer.
- What quality level should I use?
- 70–85% is a common sweet spot for photos — noticeably smaller than the original with quality loss that's hard to spot at normal viewing sizes. Below 50% often starts showing visible blocky artifacts.
- Why might the "compressed" file be bigger than the original?
- If your original was already a small, well-compressed JPEG or WebP, re-encoding at a high quality setting can sometimes produce a slightly larger file — try lowering the quality slider further, or skip compressing files that are already small.
